Your Privacy is Important

All personal information held or collected by the Mint is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means you will be asked for consent to collect your information, and you will be informed of the purpose for which it is being collected and how to exercise your right of access to that information.  Necessary measures have been taken to protect the confidentiality of the personal information you provide.

What do we use this information for?

In general, we collect only what we need to serve you well. For example, when you shop with us we will collect credit card information, your address and information on the products you wish to purchase and where you want them shipped. We will also ask for your telephone number and email address so that we can contact you should there be a problem with your credit card or order. This is the minimum we need to serve you to the best of our ability. For email subscriptions, we ask only for your name and email address.

We periodically analyze the emails we receive to determine trends in information requested, and to revise our website as necessary to help customers get what they are looking for faster. Your email address is never used during this analysis and we will not contact you without your permission.

We also gather information about sales through this site, such as number of transactions, order values, and number of abandoned shopping carts.

Collection of Personal Information

When you do place an order with us, some personal information is stored. You will choose a password, which we will use to protect your account's privacy. Should you forget your password, just enter your email address and we will send it to your inbox. Your account will contain the following information:

  1. your name, address, phone number and email address
  2. a record of addresses to which you ship orders
  3. a history of orders you have placed with us and their status (i.e., shipped, cancelled, backordered, etc.) We will not use, disclose, or retain payment information (e.g. credit card numbers) except as required by law.
  4. a record of email services, if any, to which you have subscribed

By logging in with your password you will be able to review or modify this information at any time. We can also do this on your behalf if you contact us at the customer support centre. Our agent will ask for information from you to confirm your identity before modifying any information. An email will be sent to confirm that your information has been modified.

To help prevent fraud and identity theft, we use a third-party service provider to validate your identity through an online authentication process.  While you are required to provide personal information, this information is not collected by the third party service provider and the Royal Canadian Mint only has access to this information in order to monitor fraud and identity theft protection.

Web beacons

Web beacons, also known as "Web bugs," pixel tags, or clear GIF, are small, graphic images on Web pages or that allow us to monitor the activity on our web site. Web beacons collect the IP address of the computer that the Web beacon is sent to, the URL of the page the Web beacon comes from and the time it was viewed.

Marketing

We currently contract with several third party service providers to help manage and optimize our Internet business and communications. We use the services of a marketing company to help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising and how visitors use our site. To do this, we use Web beacons and cookies provided by our marketing company on this site. By supplementing our records, this information helps us learn things like what pages are most attractive to our visitors, which of our products most interest our customers, and what kinds of offers our customers like to see. Although our marketing company logs the information coming from our site on our behalf, we control how that data may and may not be used.
